Benefits of the service

The Learning Records Service leads to a wide range of benefits affecting everyone with an interest in post-14 education and training. The service also enables shared business improvements across the sector.
The direct strategic benefit of the Learning Records Service for the education sector is the increased accuracy and efficiency in identifying and sharing learner and provider demographic, participation and achievement information. Sharing these services will enable education sector organisations to drive efficiencies and reduce administration processing costs by offering learners more personalised and efficient services for information, advice and guidance and enrolment, examination and certification.

In 2008/9, £18 million of shared service efficiencies were realised through effective and efficient bulk data sharing of a single source of learner information. Read the 2008/09 case study on how the Learning Record Service is increasing shared service efficiencies across the sector (PDF, 123Kb).

Introducing new products and services brings new processes and business change. We recognise this burden. We also anticipate that these identified burdens will be short term until processes are embedded into business as usual and lead to greater efficiencies in the long term. To minimise this initial burden, a range of case studies are in development intended to be models of success which other stakeholders can replicate to drive out the highest level of benefit. Two case studies are published below:
