Visits to Learning Providers
The Learning Records Service (LRS) team has been visiting a number of Learner Registration Bodies (LRBs) over the last two months, to understand how the process of data capture, data handling and exception resolution is carried out and the issues that LRBs currently have.
We are constantly looking at ways to improve data quality at the LRS. The data quality within the LRS is good, especially considering the large number of Unique Learner Numbers (ULNs) we have registered; but we want the quality to be even better so that the number of potential duplicates and hence exceptions can be reduced to an absolute minimum.
The visits have produced some interesting observations. For example, most LRBs are finding that the majority of the demographic searches for a ULN return one result which is usually a change in the postcode.
A number of LRBs are starting to incorporate ULNs into their own management information systems, which means they have a reduction in the exceptions returned and hence a reduction in the workload.
There was an apparent lack of knowledge about the Personal Learning Record but where it was being used there was positive feedback about the amount of information it actually carried.
We are currently analysing all the information collected and we are expecting to produce some interesting case studies and updates on the best practice guidance over the next few months
