Services and Products

The Learning Records Service is an IT enabled, data-centric set of shared services, built on the principle of 'collect once, use many times' and used by all that are entitled to do so throughout the education sector.

The Learning Records Service provides a suite of free products, tools and services to the whole of the education sector. We also put the learner, candidate, pupil and student, along with the provider, centre, school, college and training establishment, at the heart of everything we do.

We have gradually phased in our new name across all platforms and materials. You may still see the name Managing Information Across Partners (MIAP) in some of our older publications and former applications.

The LRS offers three key services to enable data sharing across the education sector:

UK Register of Learning Providers (UKRLP)

The UKRLP allocates Provider Reference Numbers (PRNs) to act as a single common identifier for UK learner registration bodies. It brokers key information about learning providers to enable data sharing.

The Organisation Portal and Unique Learner Number (ULN)

The Learner Register Organisation Portal generates a Unique Learner Number (ULN)  to act as a single common identifier for UK learners aged 14+. This can be accessed through our secure Organisation Portal.

The Learner Portal and Personal Learning Record (PLR)

The Personal Learning Record brings together in one place information already collected by education bodies, including minimal demographic details, learning participation and achievement.  This creates a lifelong record which learners can share with education providers and employers if they choose to do so.
