About the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) for learners
The Personal Learning Record (PLR) was updated in Autumn 2010, and this now supports Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT). Every unit and qualification in the QCF has a credit value. CAT enables learners to accumulate their achievements within the PLR and transfer credit for these units between learning providers and awarding organisations. This enables learners to gain full qualifications.
The PLR provides valuable evidence for pupils, students and learners when they are looking for careers advice, applying to study or when seeking employment. It is available for anyone aged 16+ so that they can login to a secure website and view their own PLR providing they have a Unique Learner Number (ULN).
The aim of the PLR is to improve the flow of information about learners' qualifications to other education providers and ultimately employers, leading to more effective information and data sharing ,and better informed decision-making for pupils, students and learners.
